Summary of the National DH market |
|
The total use of energy in Norway in 2008 was 819 PJ / 228 TWh. 57% of this is use of electricity, 130 TWh. 98% of the Norwegian electricity is produces through hydropower, and a small amount from wind power. The heatmarket is about 62 TWh to the residential, service and industrial sector. The production of DH in 2008 was 3,8 TWh / 13,67 TWh. In total for 2008, DH delivered 12,59 PJ / 3,5 TWh , thus DH in Norway accounts for 5,6% of the heatmarket. 60% to the service sector, 21 % to the residential sector and 19% to the industry sector. The energy sources used for production are DH are wasteheat (34%), bioenergy (15%), industrial heat (13%), heatpumps based on sewages or seawater (10%), and CHP (2%). This represent 74% from renewable sources. The peak load accounts for 26%, and consist of use of boilers based on electricity (16%),lng (6%) and light fuel oil (4%). The high amount of peak load is partly due to a fast growth of infrastructure for DH and of a short period at wintertime with extreme low temperatures. The total installed DH capacity in 2008 was 2200 MW. In 10 years, from 1999-2008, DH has increased by more than 150%. |
