Biomass DHS in Aubenas
Initiative
The city of Aubenas (in Ardèche, South-East of France), has chosen Cofely to design, implemented and operate two DHS, one of which is more than 9km long, fed with biomass (8 MW) and gas (9MW). The contract is a concession one, concluded for 24 years.
Cofely brings 75% of the €12 million investment; the remaining 25% being brought by local authorities, European Union and national subsidies.
The project will be operational in September 2010
Characteristics of the project
The two DHS will deliver heat for 3,000 household-equivalents as well as a water club, and public buildings (2 schools, a gymnasium ...).
13000 tons of wood will be necessary each year, to run the biomass boilers. A tripartite contact has been concluded between the city, Cofely and Synerbois, a company that gathers wood professionals locally implemented (forest exploiters, sawyers, recyclers and mongers) in order to insure, in time, the quality of supplies and a price disjunction from fossil energies.
The plant will include an urban windmill and some solar photovoltaic panel on the roof. Conceived as an educational tool, the building will be enriched with an Energy House and will therefore constitute a discovery area for renewable energies and environment protection.
The network is designed to accept connections with the nearby individual houses
Impact
- An average of 10% savings on the energy bills
- 90% of the energy produced from biomass
- 88,800 tons of oil equivalent spared
- 180,000 tons of CO2 spared (the approximate amount emitted by the car fleet of the city)
- 15 jobs created for biomass needs
- 80% of the works necessary for the project being carried out by local companies
Biomass DHS in Mazamet
Initiative
The city of Mazamet (in Tarn, South of France), has chosen Dalkia to design, implemented and operate a DHS fed with biomass for 2.5 MW (and gas for 5MW, as a spare energy source/boiler). The contract is a delegation one, concluded for 24 years.
56% of the €2.7 million investment is self-financed; 20% is brought by the regional authorities; the remaining 24% being brought by European Union and national subsidies.
The project has been operational since February 2010
Characteristics of the project
The DHS delivers heat for 800 household-equivalents and a variety of clients: schools, companies, a gymnasium, the city-hall, social households, a pool and greenhouses.
3000 tons of wood will be necessary each year, to run the biomass boilers. The source of the wood is the local forests.
The plant has been designed to be totally integrated to its environment and includes the most recent technologies, especially in terms of accepting various wood qualities and an automatic device for ashes disposal. The DHS was also designed to accept development.
Impact
- 100% of the energy produced from biomass
- 31,000 tons of CO2 spared along the contract duration; 1,200 per year (the equivalent of what can be absorbed by 7,200 trees)
- 4 direct jobs created
Biomass DHS in Andrézieux-Bouthéon
Initiative
The city of Andrézieux-Bouthéon (in Loire, South-East of France), has chosen Coriance to operate a DHS fed with biomass for 6 MW (and gas for 12.5MW, as a spare energy source/boiler). A feasibility study conducted by the Loire City Community For Energy has led to the decision to implement the DHS. The contract is a delegation one, concluded for 24 years.
The project has been operational since May 2009
Characteristics of the project
The DHS delivers 20,000 MWh of heat (and is expected to deliver an extra 14,000 MWh by 2016) to a variety of clients: municipal buildings (educational and sport facilities), schools and several residential building, either social or private households.
10000 tons of wood will be necessary each year, to run the biomass boilers.
